Sex Therapy for Women

Sexuality & Relationship Counselling for Women Online across BC

Sex therapy is a specialized form of talk therapy that addresses sexuality, relationships, mental health, and trauma.

At BC Sex Therapy Co., I offer women-centred, online sex and relationship therapy across British Columbia in a safe and collaborative space. Together, we’ll explore your lived experience, whether that involves perimenopause, ADHD, or healing from difficult past experiences, always grounded in your own story.

I bring specialized training in trauma-informed, sex therapy, and evidence-based counselling to support you. I provide secure, confidential sessions via video or phone, meeting you exactly where you are from every corner of BC.

What Sex Therapy Can Help With

Women's Sexual Health & Hormonal Transitions

Your body changes and so does your sexuality. Perimenopause, menopause, and hormonal shifts can all affect desire, arousal, and comfort. I help women understand what's happening in their bodies and find realistic, compassionate ways to reconnect with their pleasure and sexuality.

Sexual Trauma & PTSD Recovery

If you've experienced sexual abuse, trauma, or boundary violations, you may notice its effects in your body, relationships, and sense of safety. Grounded in the Triphasic Model, I integrate EFT, Narrative, TF-CBT, and Exposure Therapy to help you process these experiences. I also incorporate body-based practices for nervous system regulation, which support healing from both single events and the complex patterns of cPTSD. Healing is possible, and it begins when you feel truly safe and supported.

ADHD & Sexuality

ADHD and sexuality are deeply interconnected, and my women-centred work supports adults navigating this intersection by addressing executive dysfunction, desire discrepancies, and the emotional toll of masking. If you struggle to quiet the noise in your head, find it hard to focus during intimacy, or constantly seek new and novel experiences, you are welcome here. I bring lived experience and specialized training to help you find answers in a safe and collaborative space.

Mental Health & Sexuality

Mental health and sexuality are deeply connected, and my approach supports individual women navigating how mood disorders such as depression, chronic stress, and medication side effects shape desire, arousal, and relationships. We explore how these factors influence your energy, your body's response, and your sense of self. If you are experiencing low desire, a disconnect between mind and body, or how these conditions have impacted your sexuality, I offer evidence-based counselling to help you find balance and restore connection.

Desire Discrepancy & Relationship Intimacy

Desire discrepancy is one of the most common reasons women seek sex therapy, at times stemming from the confusion between spontaneous and responsive desire. My women-centred approach supports individual women navigating desire discrepancy, communication challenges, and complex relationship dynamics. We explore how these differences shape your connection, learn to communicate needs without blame, and rebuild intimacy without pressure. I offer a grounded, supportive space for you to process your feelings and experiences.

Diverse Relationship Structures & Identity

I am a sex-positive, kink-aware, and LGBTQIA2S+ affirming therapist. Whether you are exploring consensual or ethical non-monogamy, navigating questions about your sexual orientation or gender identity, or working through internalized shame and stigma, I offer a safe space where all of you is welcome.

What to Expect in a Sex Therapy Session

Sex therapy is a specialized form of talk therapy and it never involves physical contact or any sexual activity during sessions. The focus is entirely on conversation, education, and emotional processing in a safe and confidential environment.

Here is what our sessions include:

  • A Safe, Confidential Space: A non-judgmental environment where you can discuss intimate concerns, trauma, or relationship challenges with total privacy.

  • Evidence-Based Approaches: Tailored strategies grounded in science to address your specific goals, whether that is healing from trauma or improving intimacy.

  • Education: Clear, accessible information about how your body, hormones, nervous system, and mental health interact to affect your sexuality.

  • Practical Tools: Actionable skills for communication, boundary-setting, and reconnecting with your desire in ways that feel safe and authentic.

  • A Collaborative Partnership: A relationship where you set the pace, ensuring you always feel in control and respected.

Sessions are 50–60 minutes and held online via secure, encrypted video across British Columbia. Many clients find that being in the comfort of their own home makes it easier to open up about sensitive topics, and that once we begin, the conversation flows more naturally than expected. If you are considering starting sex therapy, I invite you to book a free consultation so we can see if this is the right fit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is sex therapy?

Sex therapy is a specialized form of talk therapy provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor with advanced training in sexuality. Sessions address intimacy, desire, sexual trauma, hormonal changes, and the ways mental health issues like ADHD or depression affect your sexual well-being. Sex therapy never involves any physical contact.

What happens in a sex therapy session?

Sessions are a safe, confidential space for conversation and education. We explore your unique story, learn practical tools for communication and boundary setting, and gain a deeper understanding of how your body, hormones, and nervous system work together. You set the pace, and the focus remains entirely on your emotional and relational goals.

How is sex therapy different from regular therapy?

Sex therapy includes all the elements of traditional talk therapy while adding specialized expertise in sexual health. A sex therapist understands the complex interplay between hormones, medications, trauma, mental health, and sexual well-being to provide a more targeted approach for your specific concerns.

Can sex therapy help with perimenopause and menopause?

Yes. Hormonal transitions during perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect desire, arousal, and comfort. A sex therapist helps you understand these changes, communicate with your partner, and develop strategies that support your body and your connection.

Is sex therapy covered by insurance in BC?

Many extended health plans in British Columbia cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage for counselling services. I provide detailed receipts for reimbursement upon request.

What if my partner does not want to attend?

Sex therapy is effective for individuals as well as couples. Many clients come on their own to work through personal concerns, understand their own desire, or process past experiences. You are welcome to start this work independently, and we can discuss how to involve your partner later if you choose.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. All sessions are held in a secure, encrypted online environment and are protected by strict privacy laws. Your conversations remain completely confidential, creating a safe space for you to share openly without fear of judgment or disclosure.
